Watch the Webinar: Small Housing in Rural Communities
On November 29th, Salt Spring Solutions held a webinar:
Small Housing in Rural Communities: Expanding Housing Options and Reducing Development Impacts
Hosted by Elizabeth FitzZaland, guests included Jake Fry and Carl Isaak of Small Housing BC – a non-profit that has province-wide experience in small housing solutions relevant to our rural context – and Avi Bryant of Galiano Cottage Co-op, that is pursuing a new way of doing ADUs within the Trust area.
Presenters:
Jake Fry and Carl Isaak of Small Housing BC – a non-profit organization that collaborates with government, industry, and homeowners to enable the introduction of ground-oriented housing in single-family zones. They work to advance policy and regulatory tools, best practices for home designs, development proformas and affordable housing models, and build the capacity of the sector to increase supply.
Avi Bryant of Galiano Cottage Co-op – a newly organized non-profit housing cooperative with a mission to create secure market-priced long-term rental housing on Galiano Island. Our approach is centered on accessory dwelling units (ADUs), which can be up to 860 square feet on Galiano. We will build and lease ADUs on residential lots all over the island, as well as on a central lot owned by the co-op.that is pursuing a new way of doing ADUs within the Trust area.
